Why we’re supporting Mike

Mike McGuire grew up on a small ranch in Healdsburg, raised by his single mom and his grandmother. He has served the North State at every level, from the Healdsburg School Board at 19 to President pro Tempore of the California Senate.

When Texas rigged its congressional map for Trump, McGuire led the Senate's response. He authored the bill that put Proposition 50 on the ballot, and California voters passed it. Now the new 1st District is his to win, against a Trump-endorsed congressman who fought Prop 50 at every turn.

Mike’s record

  • As Senate leader, co-led the Election Rigging Response Act that put Prop 50 on the ballot, authoring SB 280 to call the special election.1
  • Co-authored SB 27 (2019), requiring presidential and gubernatorial candidates to release five years of tax returns to appear on California's ballot.2

  • Trump endorsed Gallagher on Feb. 5, 2026 with his "complete and total endorsement."6
  • In the Oct. 8 debate, Gallagher defended Trump's war in Iran.7
  • As Assembly Republican Leader, Gallagher fought Prop 50, called the maps "rigged," and floated splitting California into two states.8

Where the race stands: Cook, Inside Elections and Sabato's Crystal Ball all rate the new CA-1 safely Democratic; Harris would have carried the new lines by about 12 points.9
